First occurrence on Bright Angel Trail: mile 2.13, elevation 5400 feet (1645 m).
Number of plants along Trail: These plants were found in just two different nearby locations along the trail in September 2007, just off-trail at mile 1.75 and on-trail at mile 2.13.

(Note the purplish stem above that frequently occurs in penstemons.)

From 6 September 2007, mile 2.13:

These are probably the same species, but since there is no old bloom stalk on the plants at mile 2.13, it is not certain that they are the same species.
