Flora of Tamarack, Round and Long Valleys, San Jacinto Mountains, Sorted By Abundance

See Flora of Tamarack, Round and Long Valleys, San Jacinto Mountains for an introduction to this page.

The following histogram gives the number of surveys in which each taxon was found:

As of 16 August 2008, we have conducted 13 different surveys, so the maximum number in the above histogram is 13. Only two taxa were found in all 13 surveys (see below).

This histogram follows the usual shape, in which only a very few species are ubiquitous, with most species being found in only a small number of places. Note that some of the taxa listed as not being found (occurring in zero locations), because they have not yet been determined, will eventually appear in their rightful place in the rest of the histogram, and not necessarily in a single survey.

The Checklist sorted in decreasing order of abundance follows. It is sorted first by the number of surveys, then by the maximum number of locations, and then by the maximum number of plants.

Note that Ribes cereum and Erysimum capitatum are the only species among the most abundant 19 taxa not to have a maximum abundance of 99 plants in 9 locations on at least one trail. I.e., they are widespread species, but were never terribly abundant in any survey.

None of the top 21 species are restricted to wet areas, simply because wet areas are not found in most of the surveyed areas.

This is a working list, about which we make no guarantees at all until we officially release it. Use at your own risk!
