Flora of PCT North of Scissors Crossing, San Felipe Valley

Introduction
Checklist

Introduction

This checklist is just a start at the flora of the area traversed by the PCT North of Scissors Crossing at the junction of S2 and SR78.

The checklist gives the species observed on three trips at a depauperate time of year, on 13 December 2010, 6 and 10 January 2012, up to mile 2.5 on the trail. The checklist also includes species vouchered within a mile or so of that trail, from a search of the Consortium of California Herbaria on 8 January 2012.

See Voucher Flora of San Felipe Valley for a much larger list of the species vouchered in any part of the San Felipe Valley.

Checklist

The Checklist is sorted first by category - dicots, monocots, and ferns - and then by family and scientific name. The Family and Scientific Name are from the Jepson Manual 1993 First Edition.

An asterisk (*) before the common name indicates a non-native taxon.

A superscript of 1 indicates that all plants of a given taxon are found only to the west of the immediate PCT area, between S2 and the PCT. These species mostly came from the area near the large parking lot on the east side of S2 just north of Scissors Crossing, and the use trail up to the PCT. A few other species were incidentally photographed in a Nemacladus survey of the next wash to the north.

The column titled ID?/#Pls first gives a symbol if the observed species determination is uncertain, usually because the determination was made from dead plants or from babies. A symbol of sp indicates the species is uncertain; a symbol of ~ indicates that we think the given species is the likely determination, but await confirmation from flowers. The #Pls gives our estimate of the minimum number of plants, up to a maximum of 99.

The column titled #Vh gives the number of vouchers found in the area around this part of the PCT.

The column titled #Va gives the number of vouchers from the entire San Felipe Valley, taken from the Voucher Flora of San Felipe Valley.
