Deletions to the Checklist
Introduction This page is very incomplete, and serves for now just to give a few comments on this Checklist which expand upon the review published in Crossosoma in late 2006. I hope to do a proper job of commenting on this flora in Fall / Winter 2006.
New Native Taxa Added in the 2006 Checklist Not Found Elsewhere in My Southern California Database This is a partial list of new native taxa added in the 2006 Checklist that are not found in any of my 93 Plant Trail Guides or in any of the 65 floras I've digitized. These species are thus significant and surprising additions to the San Diego County Flora, since they are found almost nowhere else in southern California. (Note that I haven't digitized every flora for southern California, and many areas, such as Imperial County, don't have floras.) I also give the Jepson Manual distribution for those taxa.
Note that there are many more new native taxa added in the Checklist; these are just the most remarkable ones. This list is partial because I haven't completely digitized the 2006 Checklist yet (10-20% is yet to be done).
Also note that there are many more taxa native to San Diego County found only in the San Diego County Checklist in my database; this is only the list of such taxa appearing for the first time in the 2006 Checklist.
There are at least three categories of sources in this list:
- Total surprises: new species or significant disjuncts.
- Not unexpected: ones that were known to be in the area, but had never been vouchered from the County before.
- Subspecies or varieties found previously only outside southern California. They might simply be the occasional specimen of a subspecies commonly found in southern California that overlaps in characteristics with ones found only outside southern California. On the other hand, they might call into question the validity of the subspecies themselves.
In the following, the Jepson Manual name is given first, with the Checklist name in parentheses if it is different.

Taxa Deleted in the 2006 Checklist This list is incomplete, especially for non-native species (marked with an asterisk); see note above.
