Links for hike #56 and 56-2 in the San Gabriel Mountains
Chilao to Devils Canyon

Topo Map.

The parking for this trail is at milepost 50.5 on the west side of the Angeles Crest Highway, ~0.1 mile south of the turnoff for the Chilao Visitor Center, opposite the signed trailhead on the east side of SR2. An Adventure Pass is required.

The trail leads southeast from the trailhead, and is shown on the topo map to the canyon bottom. For some reason, unlike the real topo map, the online topo map does not show the trail clearly for the first 200' of altitude descent.

Hike #56 is 7 miles roundtrip, 1500' altitude gain and loss, from the trailhead to the canyon bottom. Hike #56-2 adds heading downstream to the lip of the first waterfall, making the trip 9.8 miles, 2100' roundtrip. Do not try descending the waterfall without appropriate gear.

There is no apostrophe in the place name Devils Canyon, per the USGS Style convention. This trip was renumbered as trip #57 beginning in the Sixth Edition of Trails of the Angeles.

When available, the date of the described hike is given in parentheses for each link.
