Latest Flora of Tamarack, Round and Long Valleys, San Jacinto Mountains For an introduction to this flora, see Flora of Tamarack, Round and Long Valleys, which contains an earlier version of this flora from the year 2008, but with more information about where most of these species were found.
This is the latest version of this flora, including fieldwork on 6/12/12, 8/3/12 and 8/13/12, made specifically for continued work on the Long Valley flora. This version explicitly gives the number of plants observed in different surveys in Long Valley. It also includes other species seen only in Tamarack Valley, Round Valley and other parts of Long Valley, but without numeric information on the abundances of those species.
Due to the large number of columns in this version, the common name was omitted. See Flora of Tamarack, Round and Long Valleys for most of the common names.
The last eight columns give the number of plants, up to a maximum of 99, observed in various sections of Long Valley. These columns are organized as follows. The first three columns are for different sections of Long Valley Creek, from its upper end at the confluence of Round Valley and Tamarack Creeks, to its drop-off below Long Valley. The middle three columns are for different areas of Long Valley, from north to south. The last two columns are the trails that go from Long Valley to Round Valley, the high trail (Willow Creek / High Trail) and the low trail (Round Valley Low Trail). For the last column, abundance estimates have not yet been made for species seen only off-trail, and hence they have ot in the column instead of a number.
Column header Section W The westernmost portion of Long Valley Creek, from its upper end at the confluence of Round Valley and Tamarack Creeks, to just above Long Valley Meadow M The middle portion of Long Valley Creek, which is mostly Long Valley Meadow, including species seen along the Long Valley Nature Trail (now called Discovery Trail). S The southernmost portion of Long Valley Creek, south of the Long Valley Nature Trail and Desert View Trail, including a short section after the Creek turns east. N Two surveys north of the tram sidewalk / Round Valley trail in Long Valley, including an area informally known as Shangri-La. Tr Tram sidewalk area DV Desert View Trail in Long Valley Hi The Willow Creek / Round Valley High Trail Lo Round Valley Low Trail Species with no entry in any of those columns were observed or vouchered elsewhere in Tamarack, Round and Long Valleys.
