Information sources for the San Gabriel Mountains

The following information was collected in response to a question about how to obtain current information about road conditions in the San Gabriel Mountains. Many of these sources also give additional information about the San Gabriel Mountains.

There are multiple jurisdictions for roads through the San Gabriel Mountains. The Forest Service cannot close or open roads; only CHP, CalTrans and LA County or San Bernardino County Public Works can. Note that the Angeles Crest Highway, SR2, is divided between two CalTrans divisions at Islip Saddle.

  The Visitor Center is seasonally closed for the winter and will reopen
  April 15, 2007, snow permitting opening on that date or as soon as

  Mt Baldy Ski Lift
  Both of these provide information about Mt. Baldy Road
  
  Grassy Hollow Visitor Center

  Open weekends. The helpful volunteer staff will answer all your
  questions about the local area - from trail and road conditions, to
  recreation opportunities.  Subject to closure in periods of high
